La Marina – amazing bar, restaurant and beach lounge in New York City

A few months ago, Thiago and I were exploring Fort Tyron Park in northern Manhattan. I wrote a post about it and you can check it out here. The day we were there, we discovered, unintentionally, La Marina. We could not check the place up close because it does not open during the winter. Since then, I have researched more about the place and I got even more interested. At the beginning of the month, La Marina finally opened for the 2018 season and I make a reservation so we could check out.

La Marina opened in 2012 and is nothing more than a restaurant, bar and beach lounge. Located in the Inwood neighborhood, Upper Manhattan, the place is huge and has 200 seats. It has two open areas – one on the deck, smaller, and one larger, with sofas and a more relaxing vibe, and another closed area, the restaurant itself. La Marina is a waterfront spot, with views to the Hudson River – which gives the “beach” atmosphere to the place. The view is beautiful and sensational – and it becomes even more special at the end of the day, with the perfect sunset light.

The menu is very varied – but the highlight is the fish and seafood. There are raw options such as oysters and ceviches ($12 to $29) and fish ($23 to $29), plus starters and sides like guacamole, potato chips, onion rings, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. The prices of appetizers range from U$9 to U$15 and sides, from U$ 5 to U$12. We ordered a guacamole ($9), a halibut ($26) and a mac & cheese ($7) and shared it all. The food was delicious and all the dishes we saw on the other tables also looked great. Not a very cheap place – but considering everything, I thought it was well worth it!

On top of all this, as I mentioned at the beginning, La Marina is also a Beach Lounge. It has an area with sand and, during the summer, there is DJ every night besides other special parties. I heard that the place is super trendy and the parties are always crowded! A good alternative for those who miss the beach atmosphere … To check the calendar of parties and events, just check the website.

Remember that the place opens from Wednesday to Friday, from 5 pm and Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 am – they have brunch!

I loved our experience at La Marina. So good to discover these “hidden” places in New York!

Address: 348 Dyckman St – you can get there with line A.
