Fat Cat: live jazz bar in the West Village

I already knew about Fat Cat – there is also a post here on the blog written by Nyorquina – but I had never been there. My friends had already met there a few times, but I was not around here on those occasions. Until last week, when a friend invited us for his farewell – short – from the city and finally I was able to check Fat Cat closely. For starters, it is located in the West Village, one of the most charming regions of the city, with a busy nightlife.

Fat Cat is that kind of place that would probably never catch your eye if you did not know what it was about. Its structure is very big- if we think that we are in Manhattan – and this is due to the fact that the bar also has several games tables, such as pool, pong & shuffleboard, which makes your experience very different. There are 10 pool tables, 10 ping pong tables, 3 shuffleboard tables, 3 foosball machines, and enough chess (with time clocks), checkers, backgammon, and scrabble sets. There is a charge to play –  $6 per person, on average. Check out the prices here.

Another highlight of Fat Cat – the main one, I would say – is live jazz performances. Every night, there is a musician or band performing. The day I was there, there was a great band and the repertoire was amazing. The bar ends up being well diversified, because it offers quality music in a super cool atmosphere, frequented by people of all styles. It is true that most of the public was very young, but the atmosphere is so cool and there is no way you do not feel welcome. If you’re not in the mood to play, just grab a table or chair, grab a drink or beer, and enjoy good music. I would say it is a great place to meet people and also to go with your friends.

It is worth remembering that, as in any bar in the city, only those over 21 years old are allowed – upon presentation of ID. Fat Cat is open from Monday to Thursday, from 2 p.m., and from Friday to Sunday, starting at 5 p.m. For entry after 6pm, there is a fee of $ 3 per person. The price is also great: beers cost $ 6 on average and snacks like peanuts and chips are $ 3.

Finally, I could not help and tell you that I had the chance to experience that kind of thing that only happens in New York: Lady Gaga was there! Well, we tried to take a photo with her, but only when she was leaving she allowed a few clicks – and my friend Gi got one.

Address: 75 Christopher Street.
