Vintage stores guide in Bushwick

I have mentioned in some posts how Bushwick, a Brooklyn neighborhood, has been growing. In fact, Brooklyn became the coolest borough in the city – and also got more attention from tourists visiting New York. Williamsburg still is the coolest neighborhood, but Bushwick has even been chosen by Vogue magazine as one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world. I’ve already written about The Bushwick Collective here on the blog – where artists express their creativity in street arts. Last week, I was in the area exploring thrift stores, I’ve already written a post about thrift stores in Manhattan, but I had heard that options off the island were great too. Check the suggestions!

Friends NYC – I think I would say that Friends NYC is like a local Urban Outfitters. This indie department store has clothes, accessories, shoes, decor items… The store began in 2012 as a friendship pact between wannabe-sisters Mary Meyer and Emma Kadar-Penner. The girls made a great duo: Mary’s experience as a fashion designer and Emma’s knowledge of fashion history + obsession for thrifting united to create the wonderful world of Friends NYC. The store has a vintage collection and also contemporary clothing, from local Brooklyn artists and world-wide designers. I loved the style, everything is so cool! There are also bags, chokers, rings, sunglasses… you can find a little bit of everything and the prices are reasonable, start at $20.

Address: 56 Bogart St.

Risk Gallery – Without a doubt, the coolest thrift shop I’ve ever visited here in New York. Lindsay Rose Risk uses the place as a gallery – her paintings share the place with a flawless vintage collection of pieces that belonged to her mother and grandmother. The store is designed in such a way that the visitor feels at Lindsay’s house. The collection has incredible pieces for men and women, including clothing and accessories, all by color. If you are looking for differentiated items in thrift stores, this is the place. It’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, you fill your eyes. Also, the service is wonderful – we even got some wine. And the prices are also great, from $20 to $100.

Address: 232 Varet St.

Urban Jungle – I was super curious to check out Urban Jungle. In fact, the place reminded me a lot of the Buffalo Exchange, in a more organized version. The Urban Jungle is huge with a vast selection of women’s and men’s clothing. It thas pieces starting at $6 – shirt, jacket, pants, skirts, blouses. It’s that kind of thrift store that you need to have a little more patience and if you are open-minded, you can get great finds. I saw jeans shirts for $ 6 in great condition.

Address: 120 Knickerbocker Ave.

Worship – this store has some famous and fancy brands – I found Burberry handbags, Karl Lagerfield skirt and Givenchy shoes. They have  more selected and differentiated pieces – not basic ones. It is super organized, everything divided by color, and the pieces all in great condition.

Address: 117 Wilson Avenue.
