The Makeup Show 2016: new products and highlights

This week began busy here in New York with The Makeup Show, one of the world’s leading makeup events. It was the eleventh edition of the fair, which lasts two days and is focused on the professional public beauty segment. In addition to several seminars and workshops with famous professionals, the event brings together different brands, makeup products lauchings and offers special discounts. I was there during the second and now I show you the news I saw there.

Kabi Brushes, Vargas Beauty – it’s amazing how a makeup tool as simple as a brush can get as many innovation in technology, right? Bristles, shapes, design … Currently, brushes like these from Vargas Beauty, are a trend now. These releases have synthetic bristles and are great for applying products such as foundation, highlighter, bronzer, in powder or liquid version. The promise is an airbrush finish. Here in New York, these products can be found in Alcone Company.

Metal Mania, Graftobian – perfect for artistic or editorial makeup, these metallic pigments in gold and silver must be mixed with a special liquid and provide an incredible effect on the skin.

Alice through the Looking Glass palette, Urban Decay – this was the first year of Urban Decay at The Makeup Show. The selection of brand products was minimal – I confess I was a little disappointed. However, it was good to check closely the palette inspired by the new film Alice through the Looking Glass, with beautiful colors and wonderful packaging.

Body Glow, Nars – this is not a release, but I thought this Nars product very interesting: a fragrant oil that provides a golden finish to the skin, perfect for those who like to be with a summer look.

Static Nails – I confess I was never crazy about fake nails, but I found these from Static Nails amazing, for its not obvious options. They are high quality nails, professional finish. Nails are reusable, paintable and shapable and don’t cause damage. Each package comes with nails 24, 12 universal sizes, in addition to glue and sand. The kits will be available at Sephora this month.

Contouring Powder, Black Up – I discovered Black Up at The Makeup Show last year and I liked the brand, because it offers  makeup products with special shades for black skin. Unfortunately, the makeup industry is not as democratic as well when it comes to color choices and I think is nice to see a brand dedicated to this segment. This palette for contour was one of the news products presented.

Eyeshadow palette, Nyx – I can’t help myself, I love Nyx: great quality products, beautiful colors and reasonable prices. The brand had a neat space, with all its products, including these new eyeshadows palettes. It’s good to know that the brand opens its first store in New York later this month, May 27, at Kings Plaza, a mall in Brooklyn.

Mica Pigments, Naked Cosmetics – these pigments are 100% pure and non-allergic and what I liked most is that they are multi-purpose: they can be used as eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick, blush, bronzer, dry or wet. The colors are beautiful, the pigmentation is incredible and the finish is wonderful. There are more than 120 colors available.

Lip Tar, OCC – for those who do not know, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics was one of the forerunners of liquid matte lipstick. Lip Tar, who began a tube-shaped package, has a high pigmentation, long duration and great colors. Apparently, the next trend will be the matte liquid lipstick with metallic finish – and OCC now has shades so for some time. The new packaging is now more practical to apply and the spring collection has super cute pastel tones. Remember that the OCC is a vegan brand that does not test on animals.

Finger Blender, Gripless Beauty – the makeup sponges are a trend and brands do not stop to announce new versions. This one provides a more accurate application, because it is placed on your fingers and it has anatomical shape. It can be washed, it doesn’t has latex and it is enriched with vitamin E.

Airbrush 24 h Root touch up & hair color, Temptu – the brand is very known because its Airbrush system and, last year, it launched Temptu Air, the first cordless airbrush makeup device for instant, effortless skin perfection. Our patented technology delivers less makeup and more complete coverage than makeup brush application. Now the brand presents pods for root touch up and hair color, that lasts 24 hours.

Water Blend, Make Up For Ever – the Make Up For Ever body and face foundation now has a new formula: 80% water and mango butter. The coverage is great and does not weigh on the skin as well as being waterproof. You can build layers for greater coverage and you don’t need a primer.  When you apply, you have the feeling that is very watery and will not work, but then it dries and is amazing!

Rise & Shine, Inglot – it seems that the spring / summer season will be full of pastel tones: the nail polish collection from Inglot has super cute delicate colors in shades of pink, blue and yellow.

Bésame Cosmetics – I loved the concept of this brand, founded in 2004. Bésame Cosmetics created modern reproductions of classic makeup items from 20, 30, 40 and 50’s. The packaging has a vintage design and is super beautiful. The highlight is Mascara Cake, which can be used as mascara and eyeliner: just wet the brush and apply the product. Pigmentation is amazing.

Gleam Body Radiance, Melanie Mills – this moisturizing and highlighter for body and face stands out by offering three different shades for different skin types. Besides the glamorous glow, the product disguises imperfections and specks.

Makeup Collection, Shea Moisture Cosmetics – Shea Moisture is already well known in the market because of its products for body and hair, all with natural extracts. Now the brand presents a makeup line, with formulas without toxins, no parabens, no synthetic fragrances and no animal testing. The highlight is the wide variety of foundation colors, but the line also has primer, powder, CC cream, concealer, lipstick, eyeshadows, lip gloss and other items. On sale at Target and Ulta.
