Manhatta – a restaurant with an incredible view in New York City

When you think that there’s no way that they can not open a new place with sensational views in New York, you discover Manhatta. Opened approximately four months ago, this restaurant, which belongs to the Union Square Hospitality Group, combines sensational views with a menu from chef Jason Pfeifer, offering seasonal options inspired by French flavors. I was very curious to know the place – and, full of expectation, I confess. At the beginning of December, we booked a table for dinner and we visited the place. And, today, I will tell you more about this experience.

Manhatta is located on the 60th floor of a building located in Downtown, on Liberty Street. Its prime location on a high floor and its expansive windows provide a breathtaking view of the city, overlooking the east, west and midtown – for you to have an idea, you can spot the Empire State, Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. The view is very similar to that from the One World Observatory – the only difference is that Manhatta does not have a southern view. My tip is: make your reservation in advance and be sure to mention that you want a table by the window. The sooner you make your reservation, the greater the chances of your request being met.

About the food, as I mentioned in the beginning, the menu is French inspired. And it works differently depending on the day of the week and the time you choose:

  • From Monday to Friday, from 11h30 am to 2 pm, they offer an la carte menu. Prices start at $26.
  • On weekends, at lunch, from 11h30 am to 2 pm,  they offer a price fixed menu with three courses for $78.
  • Every day, from 5 pm to 9h30 pm (and until 10pm from Thursday to Saturday), they offer a price fixed as well for $94

Another detail worth mentioning is that Manhatta is a non-tipping restaurant.  The only thing you need to add to the account is the price of taxes, which are charged at the end, like everything here in the USA. And the drinks are not included – but still or sparkling water is free. And they also serve warm bread with butter, courtesy of the house.

As we were there for dinner, we had the fixed price menu. For starters, I chose a salad and Thiago chose a dish with brussels sprouts and pork sausage. For the main course, I chose a fish, with cauliflower and lentils (Trout) and Thiago got for Wagyu Coulotte, red meat with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. The dishes were not only delicious but also very well presented – because some people say that eating with our eyes is also important, right? The desserts, to me, were the highlight of the evening. I chose the Cremeux Chocolate, with crunchy chocolate and caramel, and the mix of flavors and textures was just perfect. Thiago got the Warm Date Cake, but he prefered my choice.

Also, I must mention the hospitality and the great service we had. The entire staff was super attentive and we even got complimentary fried chicken, along with starters, and a few sweets when they brought the bill. I have absolutely no complaints to make about the restaurant: it was beyond my expectations and is already on my list of the best experiences we have ever had. I have no doubt that it is an excellent thing to do in the city, since you combine incredible views with delicious food.

Our bill was $200 – with taxes, a cocktail and a beer.
