4 theme restaurants in New York City

I always say that New York is THE place to venture into gastronomy. Besides the varied cuisines, there is the creativity factor – the restaurants and cafes are always creating something new, a different dish, a mix of eccentric flavors or simply something that is Instagram friendly. Another strong trend in the city are the theme restaurants – which choose an ingredient to be the flagship of the menu. Today, I share with you four options of this kind of restaurant.

Avocaderia – I don’t know if you are aware, but avocado is an important ingredient here – at least in New York. The fruit goes far beyond guacamole and is used in a lot of recipes. The passion for avocado is so strong that the city has got an Avocado Bar, which presents itself as the first in the world of this type. There, everything has avocado: toast, salads, bowls, and smoothies. There is even an avocado burger! The influences come from different cuisines, like Mexican, Japanese and Egyptian. The tip here is to try one of the Avocado Toasts.

Address: 254 36th St – Brooklyn (Industry City Food Hall)

Cha Cha Matcha – this is another ingredient loved by New Yorkers: matcha – or green tea. If in some places the green drink was no more than a a fast trend, here in New York it is incorporated into the routine of people. So much so that Cha Cha Matcha is a place where everything has matcha. They are teas, coffees, ice cream and pastries that carry green tea as the main ingredient. Not to mention that the place is all cute!

Locations: 373 Broome / 1158 Broadway.

Egg Shop – New Yorkers love brunch. And at brunch, the main dishes have eggs – omelets, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict. In New York, you don’t have to wait until the weekend to enjoy the egg dishes, because the is the Egg Shop. Founded by the couple Sarah Schneider and Demetri Makoulis, who share a love for egg sandwiches, the team has developed a versatile menu that carries eggs on all plates. There are bowls and sandwiches – prices start at $10. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the restaurant uses ingredients from local producers, ensuring that everything is fresh.

Locations: 151 Elizabeth St / 138 N 8th St (Brooklyn).

Fry Guys –  East Village has a shop dedicated entirely to french fries. You can order the classic, wavy, or sweet potato fries plain or choose from a bunch of delicious sauces like chipotle mayo, queso, or sriracha ketchup. Or try one of their fry creations. You can choose between fried chicken and maple gravy to guacamole and bacon. The place is open ’til 2 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights
