4 cookies to try in New York City

I think much Brazilian are way better than American ones – we make a cake like nobody else, our party candies are unbeatable. But there are some things that Americans do best and the cookie is certainly one of them. Cookies here are very, very delicious. I have never tasted anything like it in Brazil. In three and a half years here, I’ve tried a lot of cookies and today I decided to make a list suggesting the most delicious ones!

Levain Bakery – Is the most famous cookie in New York. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and—not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food— they began a passionate dialog about creating the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie. Today the place is famous for its cookie – and by the long queues. The most famous flavor is chocolate –  a lot of chocolate – and nuts, in a generous, chubby form and warm, of course. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Other flavors: Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter chip, Oatmeal and Dark Chocolate Chip. Each cookie costs $ 4 on average.

Locations: 167 West 74th St / 2167 Frederick Douglass Blvd. / 351 Amsterdam Avenue.

Sweet Corner – this super charming bakery is owned by Brazilians and it is located in the West Village. The success of the place is due to the cookies: Sea Salt Chocolate – which has 4 types of chocolate and French salt – and the Red Velvet Nutella Bomb – red velvet cookie with Nutella filling. The first has already been choose as the Best Sea Salt Chocolate Cookie in NY! I was super curious to try these cookies, and honestly? They are delicious. If I had to choose only one, I do not even know which one to choose! The sizes are super generous. In addition, there are cookies from other flavors like traditional chocolate, – and prices range from $2 to $3.75. Check out a post about Sweet Corner.

Address: 535 Hudson St.

Insomnia Cookies – I recommend Insomnia because it is convenient: it is a chain, which has several locations in the city. They have varied flavors, in normal sizes and also other special, deluxe, in giant sizes, they come out warm, with chocolate melting, to eat praying! I recommend the Peanut Butter Cookie and the S’mores (in the deluxe, large version) as well as the White Chocolate Macadamia. Last year, the chain announced a vegan cookie – I do not know if it’s still available, but it’s worth checking. And you know the reason for the name? They deliver cookies at home until 3am! Irresistible, right? $ 3.75 on average.

Ben’s Cookies – If you’ve been in London, you probably know Ben’s Cookies. They are the most famous cookies in the English capital (since 1983) and the chain arrived in New York last year! The difference from Ben’s cookies is that they are baked with large chunks of chocolates and not the chocolate chips. In addition, the menu is huge: there are 16 flavors, including white chocolate, oatmeal and raisins, lemon and milk chocolate. Also worth every bite!
