Gennaro: an Italian restaurant in the Upper West Side

You probably already know that one of the things I love to do here in New York is to explore the restaurants here, right? This city has so much variety of restaurants and cuisines that is impossible for you to get tired of something! And, to help in our gastronomic discoveries, my husband bought the New York Michelin guide. For those not familiar, Michelin Guide was created in 1900, in France, and has 27 editions and covers 26 countries on 4 continents. According to the company, the assessment is based on five criteria: quality of the products used, kitchen personality, cooking technique and matching flavors, value for money and regularity. The New York edition is super complete and you are wrong if you think there is only expensive restaurants: there are options for everyone! Last Friday, we have been in an Italian restaurant listed on the guide, Gennaro, which is in the Upper West Side.

I love Italian food, so, for me, everyday is a day to eat pasta, hehe. Gennaro opens every day for dinner, from 5pm. Its atmosphere is very cozy and the gastronomic experience starts already very well: with a basket of bread. Seriously, I love restaurants that serves complimentary bread. Before our main course, we ordered a polenta ($5) to sahre. It was delicious, very creamy. In fact, there are plenty of entrees and appetizers. Obviously, we chose pasta as our main dishes and the prices are very, very attractive – between $12 and $18. I chose ravioli di vitelo ($ 17.50) a meat ravioli with tomato sauce. Thiago chose the pasta con le sarde ($ 17.95), spaghetti with sardines that came in a so generous portion that we ended up taking home. In addition to the variety of pasta, the restaurant also serves other dishes with meat, fish or poultry, with prices ranging from $15 to $30. The drinks menu includes a wide selection of wines and also some beers. We enjoyed our experience: our dishes were delicious and we left more than satisfied. I would certainly return to try other pasta from the place. If you want to check the full menu, you can click here. It is worth remember that the restaurant doesn’t accept credit cards.

Address: 665 Amsterdam Ave.
