If you’be been following the blog in recent weeks, you saw that I wrote a few posts about Red Hook, a Brooklyn neighborhood. If you are the type of person who loves to meet unusual places during your trip – or if you are looking for places off the tourist route during your days in New York, you will surely like to know Red Hook. In addition to the places that I already presented in previous posts, today I will suggest another one! Red Hook is a neighborhood rich in gastronomic options and if you like fish and seafood, you need to know Brooklyn Crab!
Built on two decks overlooking the New York Harbor, Brooklyn Crab is a hub of year-round fun, games and food. Brooklyn Crab offers the freshest, and most sustainable whenever possible, seafood fare from all the way up the Atlantic Coast and down to the Gulf of Mexico. Its atmosphere is casual and super cool. Downstairs, there is a bar and space for play games. The second and third floor have tables overlooking the river – try a table on the top floor because the view is the most beautful. The decor is very rough and the atmosphere is very relaxed, perfect for a summer day – but it is worth remembering that the restaurant is open all year round!
Menu includes appetizers such as calamri, mussels and tacos in portions from $8 and there are also soups and salads from $8, plus sandwiches and burgers from $15. For those who enjoy, there are oysters and lobsters. In main courses, there is the traditional fish and chips, crab cake, shrimp, salmon, tuna and other options with steak and chicken. We were in a party of four and we ordered three dishes to share: fish and chips, ($ 18), shrimp basket ($19), which also comes with fries, and Crab Cake. We were well satisfied and we loved the food, everything was really yummy! The Crab Cake was very good, but its price varies according to the market and the portion with two units went for $38, a very expensive price. Despite that the dish was a delight, I think is not worth. Otherwise, I super recommend the restaurant! It was a great Sunday lunch experience on a summer day, with an incredible view. Oh, Brooklyn Crab also has a special selection of beers and assorted drinks.

How get there? The most convenient and fast way to get to Red Hook is using Water Taxi. The boat leaves from Pier 11 and the ticket costs $5. The best news is that on Saturdays and Sundays the boat is free. It is 16 minutes ride – first, Water Taxi stops at Ikea. You can check out the details of this ride here. You can also use NYC Ferry, $2,75 each way.
