Mikkeller Brewery, Queens, in New York City

You know that I love checking out the new places in New York, right? When I saw the news about Mikkeller brewery opening, I’ve already put it on my list of places to visit. A few days ago we went to check it out and, as we loved the experience, here I am sharing the tip with you!

This is Mikkeller’s first U.S. brewery expansion outside of San Diego. The brand is based in Copenhagen, Denmark and has become an internationally acclaimed Danish craft brewery- currently exporting to more than 50 countries. The founder, Mikkel started out as a home brewing math and physics teacher. In 2005, Mikkel’s Beer Geek Breakfast (brewed in his kitchen), was named best stout in the world by RateBeer. Since 2003, Mikkeller has created more than 1,000 different beers and the location in New York City is the 32nd location worldwide.

The 10,000-square-foot space is located in Flushing, Queens, at Citi Field, Mets stadium. The place is huge and is a bar and a restaurant. The highlight is, of course, the beer menu, with 60 rotating taps and also cans and bottle options. Prices range from $4 to $8. Besides that, the place also offers some food options like burgers, fries, fried chicken, empanadas and salad.

We got there on a Saturday, around noon, and as we were getting to know the place, we stayed for lunch. We ordered a burger ($14) and also the fried chicken ($14). The burger was delicious, as was the chicken – but for the price, I think the chicken was expensive, because is a small portion. We also ordered two beef empanadas ($ 9), which were very good. To drink, we chose number 47 (MKNY Henry Hops, a Pale Ale) and number 50 (MKEU Not just another Wit, witbier) from the menu, which were very good. I loved number 50. Ahh, and remember, you guys can get a beer sampler before you decide which one to buy.

Mikkeller is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 4pm to 10pm (Wednesday and Thursday), 12pm to 12am. (Friday and Saturday) and 12pm to 10pm. (Sundays). In addition, when there are games or events at Citi Field, the venue is open two hours early and will remain open two hours after.

We loved our experience at Mikkeller! Also, Citi Field is next to Corona Park – and I already talked about the region on this post here. You can spend a super nice day in the area.

Address:123-01 Roosevelt Ave – Citi Field, btw Bullpen & Right Field Gates, 126th Street, at 38th Avenue.
