Lunch at Rainbow Room in New York – and its amazing view

One of the things me and Thiago most like to do here in New York is eating! You are probably tired of reading about how the city is rich in gastronomy and how there are options for everybody, right? They say you can spend a lifetime here, lunching and dining every day at different locations, without repeating. There are many places – some are in the market for a short time, because the turnover is large and others are classics that already have a history in the city. This is the case of the Rainbow Room, a restaurant located at Rockefeller Plaza and opened in 1934!

Rainbow Room is located on the 65th floor of Rockefeller Plaza – the same building where is Top of the Rock observatory. It is certainly not a place that you can visit several times, due to its price. But it’s nice to note that this is not merely a restaurant, but an experience as a whole. We’ve been there a few weeks ago and I took some pictures to write about it here on the blog. If you are looking for a special place in New York (whether honeymoon, wedding propose, celebration, etc.) you need to know Rainbow Room.

The decor is amazing. The crystal chandeliers, the tables, the floor: all the details contribute to the sophistication of the place. In addition, Raimbow Room has an exclusivity atmosphere: it only opens on Sundays for brunch / lunch. It works like this: for a fixed price ($125 per person, alcoholic beverages and tips not included) you eat everything you want. There are juices and yogurts, a buffet with bacon and special hams and pancake station, all for you to serve. Separately, a menu with omelets and other main dishes (with meat, shrimp, chicken, etc.), that you order to the waiter. You can serve yourself as many times as you want and also order how many dishes you want. Coffees are also included.

Food is delicious. We tried some things from the buffet – the hams are neat – and we ordered three entrées: Shrimp Nola and Grips, Black Truffle Macaroni and cheese and The Luger (steak and omelet). All very tasty, even. I have nothing to complain about the food. Not to mention that the service is impeccable and there is a live band playing jazz. Rainbow Room also offers a dessert station with cheesecake, cupcakes, s’mores, ice cream … all included in the price per person.

Besides that, there is still this wonderful view. The tables next to windows offer views of various sides of the city – such as Central Park and the Empire State. Basically it is the same view from Top of the Rock. Even if you do not seat close to the window, do not worry: there is a sort of balcony overlooking the Empire State which is open during the operation of the restaurant.

Remember: Rainbow Room opens only on Sundays from 11am to 3:30 pm. You can make your reservation through the website by clicking here. Remember, Rainbow Room also features Bar SixtyFive on the same floor, with amazing views, which opens from Monday to Friday, from 5pm until close. You can also make a reservation and check out the menu on the website. I want to go there and then I tell you!

Don’t forget that both restaurant and bar are places that require a dress code. The suggested dress code is business casual. You don’t need a suit and tie or long dresses. But can not really wear sneakers and sportswear ….

Address: 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
