The burgers of Wahlburgers chain, in Coney Island

Last Friday, we enjoyed a sunny day in New York and we went to Coney Island, the famous beach in Brooklyn, with an amusement park – if you do not know Coney Island, click here and check out my video. It had been two years since the last time we were there, can you guys believe? I was crazy to go up there to check the news of the place- check out this post – and one of the news is Wahlburgers. We took the opportunity to have lunch there and check closely.

Wahlburgers is a hamburger chain that originated in Hingham, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. The owners are three Wahlberg brothers — including actor Mark Wahlberg. Indeed, the literature about the chain claims it’s “chef driven.”  The Coney Island branch is one of a projected seven in New York City. The place includes a main floor dining room and crowded open kitchen, a basement dining room, and a rooftop deck.

Contrary to what I imagined, Wahlburgers is not a chain like Burger King or McDonald’s, for example, where you order, like self service. No: there is a host at the reception that gets you and takes you to the table and also waiters to take your order. My tip is that you ask to sit on the rooftop if the weather permits, because the experience is much better. The menu is very complete, with a lot of burgers – I missed a vegetarian option – sandwiches and salads. We asked The Melt, one of the best-sellers, with bacon and flat bread, and the Double Decker, classic, with homemade special sauce. In addition to the selection of beers, Wahlburgers also offers drinks. (My photos were not as good, so, I got some for pictures on the Internet to give you an idea). The service was very good. I think the prices are reasonable: the burgers cost $8 each, on average. There are also fries and other sides. I thought all very tasty! I read that the milkshakes are also great – and are available in flavors like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

Speaking about the rooftop, it is very spacious and comfortable – the best option are the tables corner, overlooking the Luna Park. Before you get worried because of the hot sun, remember that there are umbrellas. 31- which opened in September last year – opens all year. As I knew that the chain planned to open other locations in New York, I asked one of the employees about it and she told me that the next address of Wahlburgers is Times Square, more precisely next to Shake Shack, at Eighth Ave. The competition will be fierce!

Address: 3015 Stillwell Ave (D, F, N or Q subway lines)
